Rags to Riches...or a chalkboard

I love going to thrift stores and finding treasures that have potential. I am for sure not even close to being as good at this as my mom and my friend Jennifer...but I still enjoy it. Yesterday, Molly was at her BFF's (Autumn Reynolds) and Carter went out to eat with Judy and Papa and the man was still at work. I told Brayden that if he went to Goodwill with me I would get him a double scoop at Baskin Robbins. After much debate (the kid hates Goodwill!) he agreed. Before we even went in the store he said "mom, this is the nastiest store I have ever seen in my whole life and it is just filled with junk...and we hav PLENTY of junk at our house already!". Ok, so maybe certain members of this family have yet to learn the art of thrift store shopping. I wish I had taken before pictures...I bought this huge frame for $4. It had a print in it of a big bowl of fruit. It didn't have glass in it and the print was actually painted onto a plywood sort of board. So, I borrowed Jennifer's chalkboard paint and just painted right over the print! I love how it looks! I have wanted a neat chalkboard and now I have one for $4! I am excited to use it as a countdown to holidays and for birthdays and special occaions. For now, we will have some house rules on it. I also got a mirror with a wooden frame at Goodwill a few weeks ago for $2 and right now (like, seriously, right now...I took a greak for it to dry!) I am painting it with the chalkboard paint and I am going to use it in my kitchen to write my grocery list on and maybe a little love note now and then to my hot man. :)

Happy Fall Ya'll

Tonight was the fall festival at Natcher. All 5 of us went and had so much fun! We bought tons of tickets and Whitts bbq passes and we were set for a relaxing (me not cooking!) evening together. Brayden was quite the social butterfly and really surprised us. He has lots of friends and that makes me so very happy. We didn't even see him much the whole time we were there. He did check in with us often so we would know he was safe but he had so much fun just hanging out with his friends. Carter, we learned tonight, is the crush of more than a few sweet little girls. It was so funny to have these little girls run up to us and tell us that they have a crush on or think one of my boys are cute. Serious? 3rd and 5th grades? Wowzers. Molly got her hair painted pink and the boys got orange. By the end of the night Robbie's facial hair was pink and glittery from holding Molly Mae. While Brayden was Mr. Independent, Carter stayed pretty close to his little sister, I LOVE watching him with her. He is so sweet and patient and gentle with her. He is never ever mean to her. She knows that she can ask him for help and that she can count on him to protect her. I was talking to the assistant principal's wife and learned that her daughter, Evalina, has a "major crush" on Brayden. She and Brayden met in kindergarten. I told Brayden on the way home and he was for sure happy. Evalina is SO pretty and SO sweet. I was just casually talking about it to Brayden and he said "so, what do we need to do to get this done?" and when I asked what he meant he said "well, obviously a love connection needs to be made pronto!" As Mamaw Allen would say...OH MY LAND!

Hottie tottie. See below. :)

Gosh, can a little girl be any prettier than this?

Today was the first official day of fall...I hung my fall wreath today and got out some fall decorations. I LOVE the fall and the cooler weather and the excitement of Halloween and Thanksgiving and Christmas coming soon.

This season of my life...

My mom and dad have taught me about 'seasons'. And I don't mean fall and winter and spring and summer. I mean the seasons of my life. Often times I have commented to them about things like "why do I even take these kids to church? they are wild the whole time and I am in and out taking them to the bathroom and to get a drink and I don't even get to listen and it just wears me out". My dad's answer to that is something I love. He said that I take those kids to church. That no matter what, I show them that church is where we go on sunday and that it is what is important to me. He said that in this season of my life, that is what is important. Even if I don't get to sit and listen I am still doing what is right by teaching my kids that going to church is what will make us happy and that we WILL go even if we are having a rough morning or if we are late or if we have to get up a gazillion times for potty breaks. I am so thankful for the example that my parents are to me and how they just 'get it' and how they often times throw things back in perspective for me! So, in doing this blog, I want to make sure that I capture this 'season' of my life. Even things that seem not that significant to others. This is for me and for my family and to have these special memories captured forever! One day, I know, when my kids are grown and have families of their own, I KNOW I am going to miss this 'season'. I will, for sure, be in a new 'season' that will bring just as much happiness. But I DO NOT want to overlook or forget how my daily life is right now...when my kids are young. All I ever wanted was to be married and be a mommy. Sometimes when I am having a frustrating day I take a second and think to myself "be happy! your dreams cam true! this is what you wanted! you are so lucky and so blessed!". It is true. One of kids favorite things to do is go to the Boyds house. The Boyds are some of the most friendly and giving and unselfish people we have ever know. We are so blessed to know them and I am so thankful that my kids have people like them as examples in their lives. Not only do my kids have so much fun playing with the fun toys, but I have enjoyed so much getting to know Marsha and to talk and laugh and visit with her. She is SO fun and I seriously could just talk to her forever! They live in the most beautiful house and have the best toys and even have a movie theater in their house! But you know what? They are the most humble and sincere and giving and loving people. They open their home and welcome friends with open arms. They want their home to be a place where people feel welcome and safe. One day I took the boys over to ride the four wheelers and Dean and Marsha were leaving to go out to dinner wih friends. They left and told us to make ourselves at home and to lock up on our way out. The boys played out back and I laid on the couch and watched HGTV!

The red four-wheeler is the one that Carter has claimed to be 'his' when he is there. He loves it and seriously rode it for almost 5 hours straight one day! My boys love to be outside!

Brayden rides the green one and this dude has no fear! He goes super fast and sometimes scares thi mommy to death! I love that the whole time they are riding they are smiling as big as can be!

Molly loves to play with my camera. When she wants it, I just turn it on and and it over to her. Sometimes if other people are around they look at me like 'did you just hand a four year old your camera?' Yep, I did! I love this little girl! She is for sure my mini-me which is a good thing and a scary thing at the same time. Right mom and dad? They think it is hilarious that as a mom I am getting pay backs for the way I was when I was younger! :)

This is Molly and Autumn Reynolds. They are quickly becoming best friends! Autumn's mommy, Jennifer, is pretty imporant to me! Jennifer is Robbie's cousin, which makes it so much more special. Jennifer and I talk and/or text every single day. She is one of those friends who just 'gets' me. She makes me happy and I hope to be the kind of friend to her that she is to me! And these 2 little girls...look out world! The both are for sure the Princess of their little universe. Autumn has 3 brothers and Molly has 2...so the idea of hair bows and dresses...for sure news that made 2 mommy's really excited!

Carter turned 10 in June and got his first cell phone. I know. He is spoiled. When I was 10 I don't think I was even allowed to use the home phone without asking permission. Like, the home phone that was connected to the wall. Man, times have changed. I do love that he stays in touch with his cousin Cameron and also his friend Brady who just moved to Florida. I love the texts he sends me. Even when we are just at home he will sometimes send me a text that says "I love you". Or when I leave for Kroger he will send me a text telling me what kind of cereal he wants me to buy.

Ta da!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is Zane. Another sweet little friend who I get to play with a little during the week. This kid is so precious. One thing that he does that I just love is when I hold him he softly pats my back. It is the sweetest thing. I also love how he squeals and smiles and waves at me when he sees me each day. His mom, Kira, is such a great friend. She is hilarious. Like, that dry sense of humor that is just so, so funny. Robbie and I both just laugh when we are with her. I love that she calls Zane her "best friend". Sometimes she looks at him and says "we are best friends, right!" I love it!

Caleigh is our next door neighbor and Molly just loves her. We live close enough that they can just walk to each others house. They love to dress up and to play babies and to color! I love that Caleigh's mom and dad share the same values as we are trying to teach our kids. It is so nice to not have to worry about that and to be totally comfortable with her being that their house. I hope to be the kind of example to them that they can feel the same way about when Caleigh is at our house. Good friends are so important. Even when you are four.

I am so hapy that I have this blog to capture special memories. I know that time seems to go by so, so fast. It scares me to think about looking back and having regrets of not taking the time to enjoy every second with these sweet precious kids we have been given. I am going to do my best to 'enjoy the journey' but also to know that I am not perfect and that I am only expected to do the best I can. My ultimate goal is for these kids to be taught the things they need to know to be good and happy and productive and honest people!

Some things I love...

Love...this high chair. It is a very, very special high chair. Robbie's grandfather, my kids great-grandfather, sat in this chair when he was a baby. I plan on my grandkids...his great-great grandkids...to sit in it one day! Love...this red cabinet. Robbie's grandfather made it a long time ago and eventually ended up at our house. It was dark wood color and we painted it rustic red. It has been in the boys room but I just moved it to the dining room. The plate rack (ooops, am in the process of buying...I will get witcha' Kira!) Looks cute on the cabinet. The plates...all from Goodwill for 50 cents each. The red ones are Pier One plates...still have the $6 Pier One price tags on them! Love me some Goodwill treasures. I think I get that from my mom. I used to think it was funny that she loved going to Goodwill. Now I love to go!

Love...this rustic vintage student desk I got for $6.99 at a thrift store this past weekend with my mom.

Love...anything "C". Serious, I have like a gazillion in my house. My friend Kira found this one at TJmaxx for $10 and knew I would love it. So, she got it and brought it to me at like midnight one night. That's how we roll! ha! Anyway, it was black with a neon pink trim down all the edges. Not quite my color scheme so I went to Hobby Lobby and spent $2.50 on scrapbook paper and got my modge podge on! I love how it turned out! I am excited to help my friend Jennifer cover her "R" that she just got!

Love...this board sign! My mom made it for me and I just am in love with it! I love displaying my kids crafts and school papers. I am so happy to have somewhere other than the fridge to display it. My kids love to walk past it and admire their work. I love that I can switch out things and let the kids decide what they want to hang! Thank you mom, I LOVE it!

Love...my "bosom buddy" Jennifer and the inspiration she is to me! She has helped me to love thrift shops and to know what to look for! I found this bench for WAY cheap yesterday and I just love it. And when I say way cheap, I mean cheaper than two combo meals at Zaxby's! I brought it home, wiped off the dust, and put it in the most perfect spot!

Love...this girl. Serious...she is my Princess. She makes me happy. She makes me smile. She sometimes makes me crazy, too! haha!

Love...this little precious boy! I get to play with Pierce a litte during the week and I love every second of it! He is SO happy and SO good. I KNOW for sure that him being so happy is because of his super amazing mommy. Oh my goodness I have never ever seen a mommy more in love with a baby! She is an inspiration to me...and a reminder of how important it is to love and enjoy every single second with our sweet babies!

Love...CONNOR MOSBY! Man, this kid just plain rocks! He has been through more that anyone could imagine in his short little life! I think he was just over a pound when he was born. He was and is his mommy's dream come true. Well, him and his big sister. Both are miracles. Connor just had cochlear implant surgery and is lke the little bionical boy...he has a magnent in his skull that his hearing aid attaches to! Very cool what can be done for these sweet perfect babies who just need a little bit of help! I am happy that I get to spend time with this special and sweet little boy! No one loves a choo-choo train like my Connor boy!

So, there are a few things I am loving right now...another sweet baby named Zane will make his debut on here.....right after his nap! :) Cause, I love him, too!

Savor every minute!!

This little girl! Oh my heavens I love her so much! Molly Mae will be FIVE years old in January. I can't even breath when I think about that. When I was pregnant with her I NEVER EVER thought that she might be my last baby. I am so thankful that she is here and that both of us are ok and healthy. Because you see, the day she joined us was a really, really scary day. I have learned that little girls are oh so different from little boys. As mamaw Allen would say "Oh My Land! Lossie be!!". I have learned so far that life with a little girl can easily be described as...DRAMA! One day Molly had a friend over and they were playing and both being bossy and cranky and dramatic and Brayden said "oh man, this is getting good! Hey mom, this is better than reality TV!"

Molly goes to pre-school two days a week. She would actually love to go more days but HOLY COW the price of private pre-school is just plain crazy! So, we will do monday and wednesday to prepare for kindergarten. Today they are working on the letter "c" and the color "red". Molly took a red car and a red candle to share with her class during letter time. Molly is SO particulat about her clothes. But, not quite the way I would prefer. (see picture below!). Her idea of fashion is a little, or a lot, different than mine. I often tell her "you look like a little orphan!" because of the outfit choices she makes. Most of the time I just let her wear whatever she wants because I don't want her to learn to worry too much about that kind of stuff. But sometimes, like, um, for CHURCH, I would love her to at least...match! A few months ago we were at Target and we saw a little girl dressed very very cute. Molly screamed out "look mommy, she looks like an orphan!". That's the day I learned that in her sweet little mind looking like an "orphan" is a compliment!

A long time ago we had Moll's hair cut into a shorter style because it was just looking so thin and stringy. We are trying to grow it out a little and this morning she was so excited that we could get it in a pony tail! I am not sure if it will still be in after school...but we are excited to start doing fun styles with her longer hair! I will be SO sad when she tells me no more bair bows.

So, this is what happens when mommy has a headache on sunday morning and says "Molly, pick out your church clothes and have Carter help you put them on while mommy gets ready!" She walked, no strutted, into my room and said "ta-da!". She was so proud and I didn't have the heart to tell her that she looked, well, like an orphan. So, ths is what she went to church in. And yes, she carried the Doritos and sippy cup in with her. A few weeks ago she asked me if she could take a baby doll with a little carrier to church and I told her yes. Well, she carried it into church with a baby and a blanket in it. During the sacrament, which is supposed to be the most quiet time in church, I hear a "sssswissshh" sound and I looked over and she had just twisted the cap off of a Diet Dr. Pepper that she had snagged out of the fridge on her way out and tucked under the baby blanket! It seriously was so funny. About three rows of people were laughing during the whole sacrament.

On saturday Nana and Papa came to Bowling Green to hang out with us for the day. Robbie was at work. Me and Molly and Nana went thrift store shopping and Papa and the boys played and did boy stuff together. It was so fun looking through thrift shops with my little girl and my mom. Molly was so good! We took her for ice cream at Baskin Robbins on the way home. I was so worried that if the boys saw that she had ice cream they would be mad that they didn't come with us. But, when we got home the boys happily said "Papa took us to Baskin Robbins!". I seriously think we missed each other by only about 30 minutes! Nana found an old vintage spool and three vintage suitcases and I got a vintage student desk for Brayden for $6.99! It is painted red but is really rustic looking and I just love it! When Robbie saw it he said "so, are you going to sand it down and paint it?" and I said "nope, I am going to wipe the dust off of it with this rag and then I am not going to do anything else to it!" Then he said "good thing it was only $6.99". Whatever, dude. :)

Each day at school there is "line leader". The kids are always so excited to see who's name is on the board that day. I didn't have my camera in the morning, so I brought it when I picked her up to take this sweet picture. Apparently, the line leader is a big deal. Molly said she got to hold a flag, ring a bell, lead the class, and sit in a special chair. Oh, and the color that week was brown and the letter was "B". Molly took a BROWN BUG (dead!) in a baggie to share with the class. Very obvious that this little princess has brothers!

Totally unrelated, but something I want to remember...we always check the boys lunch schedule at night to decide if they are going to take their lunch or buy it at school. We checked last night and it said they are having corn dogs. Brayden decided he is buying and Carter said he is taking his. So, we pulled up at the school this morning and the big truck that delivers the food to the cafeteria was there. The guy was unloading boxes and putting them on the cart to take in. It was pouring down rain. Carter just so casually and matter of fact said "well, Brayden, the corn dogs are getting wet!". For some reason I thought that was so funny and just couldn't stop laughing. Which made the boys get the giggles. When the lady opened the door for the boys to get out she just kinda smiled at us because we were all laughing!

Friends

So, I have been thinking alot about friends. About what a true friend is. And what a true friend does. And how a true friend makes us feel about ourselves. And also I have thought alot about the importance of BEING the true friend that I would have someone be to ME.
I am thankful for the people in my life who make me happy. There is nothing like the feeling that I can be myself and still be accepted and loved. I know that I have flaws. Everyone does. But I think it is so important for friends to love each other unconditionally. To encourage each other to be the best they can, but to accept whatever is happening "now".
This little cutie in the picture...well, isn't he precious? Yes, yes he is! (this has nothing to do with this post!)
My resolve is to BE the friend that I want to have.

Back tracking a little...

In July we went ona family vacation to Panama City Beach for 7 days. See this guy in the yellow hat? Well, he is a really, really hard worker and we are so thankful for him and for this fun vacation we were able to go on together. We rented a condo for the week and got our beach on!!

One night we ate at The Mellow Mushroom. Oh it was so yummy! This Transformer was standing at the door to greet us. Brayden had breadsticks, Carter and Molly had cheese pizza, and the man and I each created our own half of a pizza. I had cheese, tomatoes, and avacados. The man had pepperoni and banana peppers. Yummo!! Oh, and see that teeney tiney ice cream that the Princess of the universe is holding? Well, it was $5.

There are so many fun miniature golf places on Front Beach Road. We went to two of them and the kids had so much fun! Brayden got several hole in ones and that made him so happy! Molly insisted she do it all herself and felt pretty darn grown up! I loved just being with my family without a care in the world and having fun together.

Our condo had an indoor and an outdoor pool and the kids could not get enough. Molly actually prefered the pool because she didn't get sand all over her. It was nice to switch back and forth and Molly and I would go to the pool when the boys played on the beach.

We LOVED walking on the beach at night. The kids carried flashlights and sand buckets and looked for little crabs and sea shells. There were fireworks on the beach every night. It was so relaxing to just walk and play on the beach and listen to the waves. There was seriously just as many people on the beach at 10pm as there were during the day!

We went to a super fun place to eat called Sharky's. Our friends, the Mosby's, told us about it. The wait was super long but it was so worth it! Our table was right on the beach! Like, we could touch the sand from just below our table. The kids meals were served on frisbees. We ate the yummiest sea food and enjoyed the live music and lighted lanterns all around us. We were there for about 3 1/2 hours and enjoyed every minute of it. We even got to ride the Sharky's golf cart back to our car. The kids thought that was really fun!

Our condo was directly on the beach so all we had to do was walk down the steps and we were on the beach! This little guy loved playing wth his new boogie board. I think he may have been caught checking out some bikini girls, too. He doesn't know that I noticed! :)

One afternoon Robbie and I wanted crab legs so we went to Publix and had them steam them up for us. We brought them back to the condo and we ate them out on the balcony while watching the waves crash on the beach. The kids stayed inside the condo eating chicken fingers and cheese puffs and watched icarly. They were yummy yummy! We even bought garlic butter and melted it to dip the crab legs in!

Yes, we did. We took our kids to Hooters. And really, the food was wonderful! Robbie and the boys also enjoyed the "view".

Molly was entertaining everyone while we waited for our tabe at Hooters. We had to wait about 1 1/2 hours and the kids were starving!

My sweet girl!

Robbie and the boys loved hunting for these little crabs. I am so happy that this daddy loves to play with his kids.

This was taken at the indoor pool. In Florida it rains almost every day, so it was nice to have a pool to swim in even when it was yucky out. There was also a Starbucks/General Store at the condo. The kids thought it was so fun to stop by the little store on the way to the pool or beach and pick up a treat. We just had to tell them our room number and they charged it to our room. Molly learned that really quick and would put candy on the counter and say "one twenty please".

We had such a fun trip! We came home tan and tired and full of new and happy memories!

Labor Day

It is so nice to have moments when I walk into a room and see PROOF that my kids love and adore each other! They really do care about each other and these boys for sure take care of and protect their little sister.

On Labor Day we had Autumn Reynolds and Judy and Papa over for a cookout on Robbie's new grill. Yeah, the one he went and got when he and the kids were supposed to be 'hanging out' while I went to Kroger for groceries. This dude seriously never ever spends money on himself. He even feels guilty if he spends $7 at Subway and get a sandwich and chips AND cookies. I know, I married a rebel. So, when I got home and saw a new grill I just smiled and was so happy that he finally did something for himself. And that now he can do some of the cooking! hehe!

After a yummy dinner of steak and bratwurst and hot dogs and taters on the grill and corn on the cob and bread that I burned in the oven, we headed outside for some fun. Molly and Autumn sat on the deck with Judy and Papa and kept snuggly warm while the boys did, well, boy things.

I tried to think of a fun activity for the boys to do and I got the idea of hooking balloons to the fence and letting them shoot them with their bbguns. Let me tell you, $2 worth of balloons from the Dollar General made these little boys (and even the big boy) so happy! We loved watching them and their excitement when they would hit one. I told Robbie that if I ever want them to have something to keep them entertained while I clean the house all I have to do is line the fence with balloons and let them out back! I love simple fun things that we can do at home as a family!

I think that we had 30 balloons. Next time I will buy 4 packs instead of 2. But they have to blow them up because oh my gosh....I know I am pretty windy but my head was spinning after helping them blow these up! Papa Coots even got talked into helping when he got here! :)

***for the record, the boys are very careful with their guns and are only alowed to use them when given permission. Molly is never ever out in the yard when they are using them. If she is outside she is on the deck with an adult. :)***
