Coots Side Christmas

Grandma Judy (Robbie's mom) is always very accommodating around the holidays and we usually do Thanksgiving and Christmas with them on days other than the actual holidays so that we can plan out all of the places we need to be and not feel over scheduled and rushed. This year we did Christmas with them on the 23rd, the friday before Christmas. We started with a yummy dinner and then Grandma Judy told us a story about love and service to get us in the spirit of Christmas. We then went around the room and took turns telling different experiences we have had with service and how those experiences made us feel. Robbie's brother, Brad, is usually kinda the 'tough' guy and not one that I would consider really emotional and it was so sweet to hear him tell of a family that he and his little family helped out this holiday season and to see him get emotional as he told of the feelings he felt as he served that family. It was really neat and everyone in the room for sure felt the spirit of Christmas. We then opened some fun presents and had a great time laughing and visiting together and the kids of course got so spoiled with lots of new toys and clothes!

Molly and Madyson love each other. I am so happy that they are so close in age and that they get along so well. When they were a few years younger they were a little jealous of each other when they were at Grandma Judy's house because they both wanted her to hold them, but now they are happy to just run and play and squeal....really, really, loud! And, of course, tattle on their brothers every chance they get!

Every year since I have known Robbie, we have gone to a little Christmas get-together in the 'country' where Robbie grew up for Robbie's mom's side of the family. It is actually with Robbie's grandfather and his siblings. It is held at a little teeney church that is actually called the "Allen Chapel" named after his Papaw Allen. It is a simple little one room church building with a little kitchen and a bathroom. We have been there every year except for the year that I was pregnant and about to deliver Molly. We were afraid that it was too far and that the weather was too bad that it was not safe to go that far. We enjoy going and visiting and getting to know family members better. We eat yummy food and play dirty Santa and always have a great time. Carter and Brayden were old enough this year to get to play dirty Santa and they had so much fun. I remember so clearly taking each of them when they were teeney babies! And even going when I was pregnant with each of them. I have pictures of each year we have gone and it is so fun- and also so amazing at how fast time goes by- to see the memories we have made at that little church!

Papaw Allen is in the nursing home and has been for several years and really doesn't get to leave at all. Everyone knew that it would not only make his Christmas- but his YEAR- if he could come, so his patient and loving daughters, Judy and Phyllis, made certain that he could come. He smiled the whole time. It did, indeed, make his YEAR.
